Beyond A-Team is an extension of our A-Team Scholars Program. Our goal is to follow our A-Team Students into high school and provide them with valuable resources to help them prepare for college. We encourage our students to excel in their studies while being positive role models and exemplary members of society.
The goal of A-Team Scholars is to increase educational opportunities for students in underserved communities, and "Beyond A-Team" continues to make that possible. We broaden the horizons of our high school students by connecting with colleges and advisors so that they can be inspired and informed of their academic opportunities. Each year we host a "Beyond A-Team" College Fair, where we invite many college represenatives to attend. Not only do the students get to meet representatives from these colleges, but they get to attend multiple financial and educational workshops, all designed to better prepare them for their future college choices.
We strive to educate the parents of our students as well so that they may be well informed of the financial aid and scholarships that are available to them to help pay for their student's education. Several key resources that we provide are multiple workshops and trips to college campuses throughout the year, all designed to open the eyes of the students that the possibility of a college education is within their grasp. In an effort to "Strengthen Families through Education and Partnerships," JRJF hosted for the first time a citywide college fair. The college fair featured over 25 in and out of state institutions. This year we were able to provide an engineering focused workshop provided by IDOT, a continuing education for adults workshop provided by City Colleges of Chicago to let parents know that it is never to late to go to college so that they may also lead by example, a college readiness workshop on how to prepare in high school and a FASFA workshop provided by LadderUp on how to obtain scholarships, grants and financial aid. In addition to the representative that were available to answer questions all attendees were able to take home a bag filled with giveaways and informative pamphlets.
