How Your Contributions Help
A-Team Scholars opens doors to higher education and inspires students to succeed in school by leveling the academic playing field. Students in grades 5-15 are awarded scholarship money based on academic achievement, character and integrity. Requiyah Pilgram (pictured), an A-Team Scholar, was named the Salutatorian of the Class of 2020 of William H. Brown Elementary. Requiyah's favorite A-Team memories include discussing life beyond elementary school, recognizing achievements at the Quarterly Celebrations, and the "Ballin on a Budget" activity. |
S.T.E.A.M. exposes communities of African Americans, Latinos and persons of lower socioeconomic backgrounds to S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) resources and experiences, ultimately building their educational capacity and professional possibilities. Thailand Tobias (pictured) participated in the S.T.E.A.M. Space Camp and Summer S.T.E.A.M. Session. His favorite memories from the program include spending time with his mom Laschia and learning how to run scientific experiments. |
Read With Me! equips students from Pre-Kindergarten to 4th grade with improved literacy skills and increased reading motivation. RWM sets students up to enter 5th grade on their targeted reading level to compete with their peers and continued academic success. Takira Nickles (pictured), a 1st grade student at William H. Brown STEM Magnet school, raised her reading skills up an entire grade, finishing the program reading at a mid-2nd grade level. Takira is kind, energetic, and willing to participate in her one-on-one Read with Me! sessions. |
The Visions for Families' objective is to strengthen the ties between school and home, understanding that education is a holistic process. VFF facilitates once-a-month meetings with speakers to help tackle the challenges affecting the parents and community. Maria Morlas-Rodrigues (pictured) is the mother of three CPS students: Amparito, Jose, and Erik. Maria enjoys VFF because she gets to spend quality time with her children while also learning valuable life skills during the parent workshops. Maria tries to bring two to three other families with her to every workshop. |
