On Monday, July 19th, the 2021 Summer S.T.E.A.M. Program culminated with a jam-packed day at Lincoln Park Zoo. Students from Jordan Community Elementary School, Sherman School of Excellence, Robert Nathaniel Dett Elementary, and William H. Brown Elementary School were transported from their schools to the Zoo in the morning.

Jordan Foundation finished the first week of our annual Summer S.T.E.A.M. program in partnership with Northwestern University! Throughout the week, CPS students from our four partner schools were transported to Northwestern's campus to learn about science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics through projects, interactive presentations, lab tours, and more!

Learn more about the program and check out pictures from Monday's session below (click 'Read more") The inaugural Street Code Jam Fest, hosted by the Center for Creative Entrepreneurship at 2112 Chicago celebrated the talent, creativity, and culture of young people working at the intersection of music and computer code. The James R. Jordan Foundation was a proud community partner for the event.

JRJF is committed to supporting students beyond the classroom. Markessa, JRJF Program Lead, has been able to conduct virtual Read with Me! sessions with students since April.
Facilitators from Northwestern taught students at Jordan, Dett, and Sherman Schools how to use Tunepad. TunePad is a learning platform that combines music creation with python computer programming. Kids express themselves creatively by remixing popular music or coding their own beats from scratch. Along the way, they pick up important programming concepts from variables, loops, and functions to abstraction, modularity, and debugging. See more pictures:
