In reflection of a challenging year gone by, the James R. Jordan Foundation would like to express our sincere gratitude for your commitment and contributions to our efforts by providing financial assistance, mentorship, and educational resources to the students who participate in our A-Team, S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, art, and math), Read with Me!, and Visions for Families programs
On Monday, November 22nd, the James R. Jordan Foundation partnered with Jordan Community Elementary School to hand out 200 take-home Thanksgiving Dinners for low-income families. Learn more about the event, see who contributed, and view more photos below:
"You have to be curious, you have to be open, you have to expand your horizon, whether that’s going out of your city, going out of your neighborhood, trying a new restaurant, or just something that can boost your confidence. That’s the main point," said Kamerin Aiken, when asked what words of advice she would give A-Team Scholars about to graduate high school.
Aiken was the third highest earner from the A-Team Scholars Class of 2019, leaving the program with ~$2,240 to use towards her college tuition. Now entering her junior year at University of Memphis, Aiken is ready to use her internship experience and work ethic to become a leader. We sat down with the South Side-raised student to hear about life after A-Team. Click "Read More" to see the full story! "My family is not from America. They're from Belize, my Mom came over here when she was in high school with my Grandmother. They always wanted that better life for us, so I just have that immigrant mentality of: try better..." said Christian Gordon, speaking on his motivation and commitment during his time in the A-Team Scholars program.
Gordon was the third highest earner back in 2018, leaving the program with a cumulative ~$3,225 in scholarship funding for college. Now entering his senior year at DePaul University, Gordon's drive for success has only gotten stronger. We sat down with the Englewood-raised student to hear about life after A-Team.
